The recent Christmas Market in and around Wroclaw's Market Square attracted 26 per cent more visitors than last year – the results of a survey based on mobile phone data show that it was visited by more than one million people. The Wroclaw attraction attracts tourists, but local residents still account for the largest proportion of visitors.

The Wroclaw Christmas Market has already become the winter showpiece of our city. Every year it attracts more and more visitors – during the last edition, there were more than one million people!

Jacek Sutryk, Mayor of Wroclaw: ‘The Christmas Market has become a permanent feature of Wroclaw's Christmas landscape, transforming the area of the Market Square into a magical world of attractions, craft gifts and unique aromas and flavours. This is one of the most recognisable winter events in Poland, which attracts more and more visitors every year. With 6.6 million tourists visiting our city in 2024, December was a record-breaker in terms of one-day visits.

More and more visitors to the Christmas Market in and around the Market Square

The results of a survey carried out by Mobilens on behalf of the Wrocław Tourist Organisation show that the 2025/2026 Christmas Market attracted 26 per cent more visitors than the previous edition of the event – 1,025,887 (812,389 in 2024/2025). In contrast, 788,026 people were recorded in 2023.

The survey was conducted from 29th November till 7th January using mobile phone data, and the number of participants was measured by counting each person once per day.

The largest group that visited the Christmas Market during the last 18th edition were, of course, the male and female residents of Wroclaw (60.6 per cent).

Radosław Michalski, Director of the City Brand Department: ‘A large group of visitors – almost 40 per cent – are people from outside our city, including Lower Silesian men and women (13 per cent) or residents of other regions of Poland (16.3 per cent). Every tenth visitor to the Christmas Market is from abroad. These figures show that the Market does generate tourist traffic. Everyone benefits from this – December becomes a hot season for restaurants or hotels, and Wroclaw gains more budget revenue and also greater visibility.

230 exhibitors, more than 70 per cent from Lower Silesia

The survey based on mobile phone data provides information on the popularity of particular sections of the Christmas Market. Participants paid the most attention to the stands and attractions in the Market Square (30.7 per cent of visits), but other locations also attracted much interest: Plac Solny [Salt Square] – 23.5 per cent, Świdnicka Street – 23.1 per cent, Oławska Street – 22.7 per cent.

‘This year's Fair attracted 230 exhibitors from Poland and Europe, and more than 70 per cent of them were entrepreneurs from Lower Silesia, which strongly emphasises its local character. However, the Wroclaw Christmas Market consists not only of stalls and festive flavours, but also of an extensive programme of accompanying events that was sure to attract both locals and tourists. For 17 days, there were concerts, animations, performances and meetings with Santa Claus, which introduced a unique festive atmosphere,’ says Małgorzata Golak, Director of the Economic Development Bureau of the Wroclaw City Office.

Who does such an offer go to? The survey conducted shows that the 2025/2026 Christmas Market was visited by slightly more women (53.4 per cent) than men (46.6 per cent). In terms of age groups, the highest interest in the event was recorded in the 30-44 year olds (36.9 per cent) and 21-29 year olds (29.8 per cent) groups. People at the age of 45–59 accounted for 24.7 per cent of visitors.

They took the opportunity to visit Ostrów Tumski and other attractions

Interestingly, thanks to the survey, we also know which other attractions in Wroclaw were popular among tourists at the time.

‘People from outside Wroclaw who came to the Christmas Market were also very keen to visit Ostrów Tumski, with almost half a million visits recorded in the survey. Visitors to the Fair were also keen to walk along the Xawery Dunikowski Boulevard, with this attraction far more often chosen by visitors from the country and region than from abroad. In third place was the Quarter of Mutual Respect,' stresses Alfred Wagner, Deputy Director of the City Promotion and Tourism Department and President of the Wroclaw Tourist Organisation.

The 18th edition of the Christmas Market started in and around the Market Square on 21st November 2025 and lasted until 7th January 2026.
